Emily Chen

Emily Chen is the Vice President and Managing Director of Project Sprout. A resident of San Marino, California, Emily is currently a Senior at San Marino High School.  Emily started playing the violin once she moved to Southern California and has been a member of the orchestra at Huntington Middle school and San Marino High School.  Along with her participation in Color Guard as a freshman, Emily started managing for the San Marino Boys’ Water Polo teams.  In addition to being a member of many different clubs, Emily was involved with Cookies Club as Publicity Officer, a club with the goal to educate students on basic kitchen skills; she is also currently on the cabinet as an event manager for the club Investmore.  

Outside of school, Emily is the Founder and President for Paws to Help, an organization that strives to spread the word about animal foster programs and make the process more convenient.  Emily also rides competitively and started equestrian lessons last year.  With over 750 hours of community service, Emily has spent time reading to kids from low-income families to boost morale and help kids find the joy in reading, offering companionship to the elderly at the Sunrise Senior Center, and assisting patients in various ways as a volunteer at City of Hope.  Emily also attends Panda Care events to help serve food to the homeless and try to get kids interested in STEM subjects.  As a native speaker of Chinese and Taiwanese, Emily is currently learning to fluently speak Spanish which will hopefully help her on her annual mission trips down to Enseñada to provide medical care for the underprivileged children.  She has also shadowed dentist Dr. Timothy and Joe Cheng in San Gabriel who has taught her how to sterilize and set up stations for new patients.  This summer Emily has been working under Dr. Julie Lang at the University of Southern California doing cancer research, growing cell cultures and learning about precision oncology.  Emily enjoys to be involved in many different types of activities and tries to help others the best she can.
